Forescape devlog #6 first on itch!

Hi everyone!
Over the past four months, I’ve been hard at work on Forescape, and there’s a huge list of updates and changes to share. The biggest change is this:
I've decided to remove breakable weapons from the game.
Now, each character has their own unique weapon that slightly scales with their level and no longer breaks—though it can become rusty in certain cases (no spoilers!). I made this change because it felt wrong that a character would enter the caves with their own personal weapon, only to have it break after a few fights and be replaced by a random one.
At first, I thought randomized weapons added combat variety. Each type had its own mechanics—spears applied a debuff that prevents dodging, swords caused bleeding, blunt weapons stunned, etc. But in practice, it added too much RNG and forced you to rely on luck just to progress. You could even end up with no usable weapons and have to fight barehanded.
Now, instead of weapon variety, there’s character variety. Each hero has a fixed weapon with its own style and strengths, keeping combat tactical without depending on loot drops.
Other major updates:
-
Each hero now has a unique ability, usable once per rest.
(So far we have: Charge, Air Barrage, and Devour for the three current characters.) -
Enemies now have attack animations
-
Some enemies now have chasing behavior
-
A bonus level is finished, complete with a working boss and NPCs
-
Lots of new visuals added and polished
-

-

Tons of bug fixes

I still need more time to polish visuals and improve the overall feel of the game before releasing the demo, so I’m not ready to set a release date just yet. But I’m doing my best to make sure it’s worth the wait!
Thanks for following the project and supporting Forescape by reading this!
See you soon!
